Collections and Process Serving Stories
I Was Coerced into buying this cell phone!
I was "in negotiations" with a guy who owed a relatively small amount of
money to his former Cellular Telephone Service Company. OK, maybe
not really negotiating so much as having a really funny argument.
In my mind, he owed the bill, plain and simple. He, of course, felt quite
otherwise about this bill being at a collection agency. I advised him of
the contractual agreement he had signed and that the balance was
indeed owed to the cell company.
He actually shouted, "They made me buy this phone!"
"Sir?"
He went on to tell me how 'they' made him purchase the phone and the
service. I told him I would entertain a dispute, but would need something
in writing.
< time passes - about a month later >
I was sitting at my desk when a colleague drops off a package for me.
Inside was a cassette tape and a hand scribbled letter.
Odd.
The letter went on to describe how the _RADIO ADS_ had seduced him
into the cell phone store to sign up for service. He was a victim of
subliminal advertising and should not have to pay!
Several of us took the 'evidence tape' for a play in the break room.
I was rolling! Tears broke from my ducts and ran down my cheeks.
This man actually took the time over the course of a month to sit near the
radio _on ONE station_ and record six different advertisements of the
cellular company's promotion.
Subliminal? I think not. Silly? Yes, yes it is.
