Collections and Process Serving Stories
I am not your guy
My task was typical - Find the soon-to-be Ex and serve him. The attorney
gave me a spot where the defendant (he) may be 'some time around
6-6:30 pm.' He had no known address or place of employment. The
plaintiff (she) was to spot me and point him out near a Perkins.
I parked the vehicle a couple blocks down and hoofed over to the 'serve
zone.' She called me on the cell indicating she had made contact with the
defendant and that he would be in the area very soon. About an hour
passed (I found a great Deli) and my phone rang. The plaintiff, through an
interpreter, had found the address where the defendant was living. I
drove to the apartment building and took the elevator to the 22nd floor.
When I knocked on his door, he asked what I wanted. I asked for the
recipient by name. "He doesn't live here." The door never opened. I
walked down the hall with heavy footsteps and rounded the corner to the
elevator door. I pushed the button and when the door opened, I peered
down the hallway to see my serve walking out the door. My clever ploy
proved positive. He told me that I would not find 'so and so' here, and
that nobody in this apartment building would be willing to help me. Little
did he know.
I had made a quick call on my way to the elevator.
I rode down the 22 floors and Mr. 'I am not your man' followed me toward
the exit near the back. He saw the plaintiff, knew the jig was up, and came
straight to me and said, "you got me, what do you want?"
I gave him the divorce and restraining order papers, and the interpreter
friend gave me a thumbs up.
